Independent Brand Project

Branding & Marketing

JYU Airlines logo with stylized gold and black wing above the text.

Objective: Design a brand identity, graphic standards and applications by completing a self-initiated design project to meet professional development goals.

The concept of this brand is to allow young people to have the dream of traveling abroad, and to have luxury and high-quality services at the same time, but at a price that everyone can afford. Especially for young people between the ages of 25 and 35, everyone is busy with work and money plans and cannot enjoy the beauty of traveling abroad. JIYU means freedom in Japanese. This is what we hope all young people can have. They are not just fighting for life, but also knowing how to enjoy life.

Spa Day Project

Interior & Architecture

Objective: Create a 3D model of an 8’x12’ floor with 4.5” thick 12’ high walls mini salon/barbershop based on Japanese, Modernist, 50’s Scandinavian, California, Boho or Hipster themes.

Interior design of a modern barber shop with a sign that says "Calmly Barber," featuring shelves with hair products, a barber chair, a wooden cabinet with towels, a round sink, a cozy chair with a pillow, and hanging pendant lights.
Interior view of a modern barbershop with a sign that reads 'Calmly Barber', featuring a barber chair, shelves with bottles, and a cozy seating area with a plant and a round chair.

The theme of my design of this project is Japanese style. I have consulted a lot of information about Japanese architecture and found that many Japanese architectural styles use wood texture. This interior design makes people feel relaxed and enjoyable. Regarding the lighting part, I used most small light bulbs, which made people feel more relaxed, rather than just an ordinary light, which made people feel like they were entering the office.

Design a 4-page magazine considering how text and design conveys meaning; employing text hierarchies as a way to navigate; selecting appropriate typeface pairings; creating effective image and text combinations; and creating visual continuity from page to page.

Magazine Spread

Communication Design & Typography

The theme of my magazine design this time is stussy, which is also one of my favorite clothing brands. I've looked up a lot of history and design about stussy. It comes from the long-standing American street era. This design is also known for its cluttered logos and bright colors. The biggest change I made in this work was the cover of the magazine. Although it was different, the design of the cover was painted by me by myself. This makes this work more unique

Mixed-used Laneway House

Interior & Architecture Design

Objective: Design laneway houses that reimagine the potential of Vancouver’s urban fabric by integrating nonresidential programs to create dynamic, mixed-use corridors. Explore how these often-overlooked spaces can evolve into vibrant community hubs, balancing residential living with broader neighborhood engagement.

The Laneway House building was inspired by one of the most unique Taiwanese Starbucks store. The building is create by multiple containers, the concept is to not only let the people come in just for a cup of coffee, also can have a chance to go upstair and having the view of Taiwan, which I really respect this concept. So, I create a mixed-used laneway house that combined the 24 hours cafe and private room for students, the concept is to let the student have a place for morning coffee and a private area to learning or meeting.

A three-story modern building with large glass windows and balconies, surrounded by trees, with people inside and outside.

Parklet Design

Interior & Architecture

Objective: Design a small Architectural Public Space: a Parklet. Review, apply, and strengthen skills with 3D modelling and 2D drawing tools, both in the design development and communication processes, while exploring design principles and spatial awareness concepts.

My parklet design project concept is for people having a place they can have a rest with limited space. Also, having lots of plant beside would make people feel relax and comfortable when they stay in this area. The roof of the parklet is not fully closed, I decide to have glasses on the top, which the sun can have transmission into the area. The most unique part of this parklet is the hook in the middle, people can have their umbrella or other things on the hook, then they don’t need to put everything on the ground.
