Study architecture at Langara College, Vancouver
Your architecture

Design Formation: Your path to a career in architecture.
The Design Formation diploma at Langara College was designed to allow students to focus their studies on a particular discipline like architecture, or keep their options open by studying a range of disciplines like graphic design, experiential design, interior design, or product design, as well as architecture.
After completing their diploma, DF alumni go on to start their careers in entry-level creative positions, or continue their education at one of our Canadian and international partner institutions.
Students interested in Architecture go on to programs like the Bachelor of Design in Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urbanism at UBC SALA.
After graduating from
Design Formation, I felt really
prepared for 2nd year at UBC.
DF classes and projects gave me
the foundational knowledge and
designthinking skills I needed
toexcel in the Bachelor of Design
andMasters programs at UBC.

Curriculum that sets you up for the next step.
Our curriculum is designed to give students a head start in their design careers.
Some students enter the diploma knowing exactly what they want to do after graduation, and others join knowing that they want a creative career, but aren’t so sure in which discipline.
Whether you know where you’re headed, or are open to possibilities, as a DF student you’ll learn the foundations of design like design thinking, storytelling, and design tools and software, as well as soft skills like communication and presentation skills. You’ll then round out your diploma with chosen electives in your area of interest, and finally complete a practicum with a real employer.
We spent a lot of time learning
and using programs like Illustrator,
InDesign, SketchUp, and V-Ray during
my time at Langara Design Formation.
Once I transferred to
2nd year at UBC BDes,
these technical skills
set a higher standard
for the work I was producing.

I’m most interested in
architectural concepts
because of the classes in Design Formation.
The program pushes you to
balance technical precision
with creative and conceptual
model-making, and I've
never been more motivated
to work as I am in this program.
I feel that my ability to communicate in
architectural terms is being developed
with the combination of all classes.
