Parklet

The Love Nest

Objective:

Design a small Architectural Public Space: a Parklet. Review, apply, and strengthen skills with 3D modelling and 2D drawing tools, both in the design development and communication processes, while exploring design principles and spatial awareness concepts.

The Parklet Project is initially to aim at exploring curb side spaces around Vancouver, and is later turned into a branding project to incorporate the parklet to be placed behind the empty space behind the Langara 49th Ave station, and adding graphics to it. This parklet is called the Love Nest, it is designed to encourage pedestrians to slow down, take a seat and engage in conversations with others. The design is inspired by a bird’s nest and uses wooden planks as its main structure to form a seating area.

Donut Shop

Objective:

Develop the functional space for a Donut shop using the intersections of two shipping containers. Utilize CAD to create floor plans and elevations to then create a scale model.

The Donut Shop project aim was to plan out a space as well as programming and design a donut shop made out of 2 shipping containers within the restrains of bylaws.The design emphasis in Ali’s Dough was to create an environment for a busy donut shop, which will maximize customer flow and worker efficiency. The 3D model donut shop is later transformed into a physical model. With the use of laser cutter, the walls and structures are laser cut and engraved.

Luminary Crescent

Materials and Sustainability | Pendant Lamp | Laser Cutter

Objective:

Design, Document, and Fabricate a small Luminous Object, while exploring the relationship between Narrative, Form, Materiality, and Value— from concept to fabrication.

The Luminous Object project was to explore different types of material with the use of machinery and tools to create a lamp through the fabrication process. The Luminary Crescent is inspired by the different phases of the moon. The lamp is made out of plywood that were laser cut with precision, and then are assembled together by slotting through slits, in order to hold up the whole structure.

Kimochi Studios

Interiors and Architecture | Material board | FFE Board

Objective:

Create a 3D model of an 8’x12’ floor with 4.5” thick 12’ high walls mini salon/barbershop based on Japanese, Modernist, 50’s Scandinavian, California, Boho or Hipster themes.

The Barber Shopproject’s aim was to design a barber shop using various materials for the interior based on a selected design style in order to create a material board and a furniture and fixture board( FFE board). Kimochi Studios is a Japanese style barber shop, inspired by the Japanese zen garden. Featuring Japanese cedar, Mahogany wood, bamboo and concrete in the design, Kimochi Studios vows to bring calm to customers whenever they visit.

Endor Escape

Objective:

Through the design of a small playhouse, integrate learning outcomes that include applying key Design Elements & Principles, considerations around the human body in space, presenting and communication 3D ideas, and core software skills.

The playhouse project is to design a playhouse for children within the parameters of 10ft by 10ft, and create an infographic poster about it. Endor Escape is inspired by the Ewok village from the movie: Star Wars. Endor Escape is designed for children to explore and be adventurous and ignite their imaginations, as if they are in the forest.

Objective:

In a lottery choice of un-marked candy, snack or beverage, explore the sensory experience and express it in spray paint and paper cutting, while including a 3-letter word in suitable typography.
